Here is a step by step of this style of tube, which is becoming very popular in the UK now. i have been using it for some time now, and really like the way of tying.
Above, are the parts needed for these tube flies, junction tube inner and outer tube.
Above, The inner and outer tubes,
Now the inner and outer tube out of packing.
Now i cut the outer tube, to the length of the tube fly i want. the above is 1/12" inch long,
Now i trim a notch out of the outer tube.
Now i put the inner tube inside the outer tube.
Now i put on the junction tube, which will hold your hook.
Now i push the tube, onto the needle of the vice.
Now i will put a hot spot on the back end of the tube, and coat it with Deercreek UV resin.
Above the hot spot finished,
Now i wind on some thread, to the front part of tube. this will lock the inner tube to the outer tube, and to make sure it does not move. and dab of super glue,
Now just in front of the hot spot, catch in the thread i am using Danville 70 denier white.
Now i tie in a tail of pink floss,
Now i tie in oval silver ribbing,
Now i tie in sparkle dubbing. in pink.
Now the front part of body, i dub in purple dubbing and rib both.
Now i tie in a saddle hackle of pink,
Here the hackle is finished,
Now i tie in the under wing, but tie it in reverse.
Now i tie in the top wing, over the under which is held down by top wing.
Now i tie in cheeks of jungle cock.
Now i tie in the front hackle, of purple.
Above i have wound on the hackle.
Now i trim the hackle,
Now i push on cone head, and melt back inner tube with lighter which the cone is pushed onto.
And above, the fished tube fly.
And more colors, top blue and black.
And Red and black.
And black and purple,
Try these tube they are very easy to tie, and fish very well.
First place tube in vice, here i am using a 1" inch copper tube.
Now we catch in the tying thread, here i am using Danville 140 denier white.
Now i have tied in the rib, oval medium gold.
Here you can see, i have mixed up some bucktail. in orange and yellow to use as as the tail ,
Now i have cleaned up the unwanted bucktail, and tied in some gold Krystal flash.
Now i have tied in gold holographic tinsel, for the body.
Now above i have run the tinsel, down the body to the tail. and back up to the head of the tube, and wound on the oval tinsel rib.
Now its time for the wing, these days we have a great range of colours to use.
Now we tie in the wing, tie in the zonker strip. with the flow of the rabbit hair,
Now i have trimmed the zonker strip, to the length i want.
Now i tie in the first hackle, i have used a whiting hen cape dyed yellow over white.
Above, i have wound on the first hackle.
Now it's time to tie in the head hackle, this time it is dyed hot orange.
Here you can see the head hackle wound on,
Now i have tied in some Jungle cock cheeks, but i have used Prosport plastic JC.
Above i have tied off the thread, and as you can see. i have change from white to orange 70 denier size,
And above, i have put in a lining tube. and varnished the head of fly, this is my take on the cascade.
And above, i have tied this fly in orange.
And above, my take on the Junction shrimp.
And above, all three colours together. please give these a go the patterns have lots of movement,
This is a fly i use a lot, when the river is running with a bit of water. i am not one for using a spinning rod, just love to fly fish. and by using a large fly fish will pick it up better than a small one, the fly is tied on plastic coated wire used for craft work. like bead work, and you can tie very large flies but being very light to cast with a fly rod.
Above, You can see i have doubled over the wire to the length of the fly i want. and then melted the plastic coating together, it is a very strong weld and i have done pull tests on it. to over 60lb without it pulling apart, so as you can see its a very strong fly.
Above, you can see the mount ready to take the body covering, i will use mylar tubing.
Above is the mylar i will be using, you can get it in hobby craft shops.
Now i thread the mylar on a threading tool, the tool is used a lot in carp fishing. for threading bait on hook,
Now i have threading the mylar on the mount,
After threading on mylar, i will tie it on over the hook shank.
Above is the flash i am using for the tail of fly,
Now tie in the flash,
Now fold back, the forward part of flash.
Now i will coat the thread, with Deercreek UV resin.
Close up of the tail.
Now i mount the snake fly, i mount in my snake fly vise.
Now i tie in the first hackle, i am using a Whiting yellow saddle.
Here i have wound on the hackle,
Hackle is trimmed,
Now i get ready to tie in the first wing,
The color is golden yellow,
Above the first wing is tied in,
Now i am going to tie in some hot yellow flash.
Above, the flash is tied in.
Now i tie in the next part of the wing, using hot orange.
Now i tie in the wing topping, black.
Now i need more flash,
The flash i have used to top off, is rainbow.
Now its time to tie in the front hackle, again i have used a Whiting saddle in hot orange.
Now i tie in some jungle cock, i have used on this tie soft plastic ones.
Above the fly in vise, all i need to do now is coat the head.
And above, the finished snake fly. i use these a lot on the river Towy and catch a lot of fish on them, plus my mates have done very well on the as well.
